Master of Science in Biogeosciences (BGS)
A unique education programme associating Biology and Earth Science
In the fall of 2009, the Universities of Neuchâtel and Lausanne jointly started offering a Master in Biogeosciences.
This Master of Science in Biogeosciences is the result of the integration of two domains of natural sciences: biology and geology. It emerges from new fields of research at the multiple frontiers of these two disciplines.
Its main objective is to prepare students for new trans-disciplinary fields, based on an integrated approach of natural and man-made environments.
The areas covered are at the crossroads of disciplines such as:
- external geodynamics
- biogeochemistry
- hydrogeology
- pedology
- vegetation studies
- microbial ecology
- plant physiology
- mycology
It is not about a mere juxtaposition of two domains. Geologists and biologists keep on with their specialization, but they are now connected by a solid bridge : BIOGEOSCIENCES !
