The Centre for Hydrogeology and Geothermics (CHYN) is a leading institute for research and teaching on groundwater and geothermal energy with about 50 collaborators. The CHYN offers the only Master programme in Hydrogeology and Geothermics in Switzerland. Established in 1965 as a groundwater research center, the CHYN has recently expanded to include the field of geothermics.

The institute hosts five research groups in applied hydrogeology, quantitative hydrogeology, stochastic hydrogeology, hydrochemistry / contaminants and geothermics.

With this multidisciplinary structure, the CHYN is ideally placed to offer a comprehensive teaching program covering the key topics in hydrogeology/geothermics and to carry out high level research. The research focuses on fundamental questions as well as major challenges when exploiting and using groundwater and geothermal energy, two major resources of the future.
